Point 65 Mercury GTX Modular Kayak - Front Section - Red
The Mercury GTX is high-performance, decked, modular touring kayak - following the success of Point 65’s modular recreational kayaks. It’s also known as the Mercury 14/18 - getting this name from its 14 foot length as a solo kayak, or 18 foot length as an impressive, 17’10” high-performance expedition kayak. The solo version of the Mercury GTX comes in 3 separate pieces and the tandem comes in 4. These pieces are the stern, the bow, and the cockpit(s). They easily snap together and apart in seconds, making this kayak able and easy to transport in the back of a car and store at home. The 39” nose section fits snugly into the large cockpit, making its broken-down size even more compact.
The “snap together” ability mentioned above is Point 65’s revolutionary Snap-Tap technology – meaning the kayak snaps apart into a tail, nose, and middle section(s) and re-assembles in seconds. The coolest part about this is that you basically have a solo and a tandem kayak in one! For those days you go out by yourself, leave out one of the cockpit sections and you have a solo kayak. Bring someone along and snap in another cockpit section for a tandem kayak! Or bring the whole party and snap in several cockpit sections! The record so far is a 100-man kayak built by adding middle sections to Point 65’s Tequila! sit on top recreational kayak!
Since the Mercury GTX was created by award-winning design engineer Magnus de Brito, it’s no wonder it’s a fast, fun, comfortably stable, straight tracking kayak. The large size of the comfy padded cockpit makes for easy entry and exit and fits almost any size paddler. Its rotomolded polyethylene construction makes the Mercury GTX incredibly strong and impact resistant. The large dry hatches in front and aft give you plenty of bone-dry storage space. Add the optional fitted spray cover (Point Storm or Point Ocean size: XL) and enjoy a dry ride, even in the roughest conditions.
The Mercury GTX comes fully equipped with an efficient and ingenious keel rudder skeg featuring the innovative Symmetry skeg system, which allows you to drop the skeg/rudder with tremendously improved maneuverability compared to normal add on rudders which are most common on kayaks. It also features foot pedals, cup holders, and Point 65’s coveted AIR seat. The AIR seat is super comfortable and has a pneumatically adjustable backrest. It’s made of honey-comb patterned material in combination with mesh-like fabric, which is laminated and molded over EVA foam. A hand pump allows the user to adjust the firmness.
It’s easy to see that the Point 65 Mercury GTX might just be THE most practical, innovative, and best touring kayak out there!

About Point 65
Point 65 Beginnings
The idea behind Point 65 came from the magical place of Point 65° North. It is the island, Rönnskär, near the Northern City of Skellefteå, Sweden and the home of the Pite-Rönnskär lighthouse. It was built in 1905, and is surrounded by hundreds of islands – ideal for exploring the outdoors. The islands’ beauty combined with the engineering and ingenuity of the lighthouse were the essence of what the Point 65 brand wanted to achieve.
Founded in 1996, Point 65 is now the leading outdoor brand in Europe, and one of the fastest growing outdoor brands in the world. Point 65’s products are sold all over the world, with innovation as their hallmark.
Point 65 has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognition from multiple renowned kayaking magazines and authorities.
Dedicated to quality, form, and function, Point 65 is innovative, their products are functional, and their design is Scandinavian. Their mission is to inspire people to use the outdoors, through innovative, unique, and outstanding products.
Point 65 is the company behind the ingenious, practical, modular take-apart kayaks, and the Rum Runner modular stand up paddleboard (SUP). These modular water crafts easily snap together to form one solid boat, and snap apart for easy transportation and storage.
On top of their modular kayaks and the Rum Runner modular standup paddleboard, Point 65 also offers a wide range of state-of-the-art bags and hard shell backpacks - which double as the highest rated spine protectors in the world while protecting and keeping your gear dry. These packs were previously known as “Boblbee”.
The Point 65 Team
Point 65 has some amazing members on their team. These members include the ultimate test paddler, Freya Hoffmeister, one of the leading designers in Scandinavia, Magnus De Brito, and the living paddling legend, Nigel Foster.
Magnus De Brito brought advanced marine technology with him to Point 65. He designed the award-winning modular kayaks Apollo, Tequila!, Martini, and Mercury, and also the Rum Runner modular standup paddleboard. He also designs state-of-the-art touring kayaks, such as the XP18, XP18 Spyder, and the Freya Expedition. The Freya Expedition was named after Freya Hoffmeister, and she also helped Magnus design it.
Nigel Foster – referred to by many as a living paddling legend – strengthened the Point 65 team in 2004, by bringing his legacy and the history of modern paddling with him. Not only is Nigel Foster an international kayak teacher and icon of modern sea kayaking, he has also designed 6 sea kayaks, and his international reputation is built on his designs. Nigel is the designer behind Point 65’s Whiskey 16, Double Shot, and Nigel Foster Paddles.
